Sabelle is a rare alpaca — rare to us and ... just rare.
She's the first and only (so far) cria born here at Bryn Tirion Farm — so that makes her really special to us, so much so that we thought long and hard before we decided to offer her for sale.
Her name is pronounced like the French phrase "C'est Belle" — which means "It is beautiful", and that's what we felt when we saw her born.
And when we looked on Alpaca Nation to see what other cria were available similar to her, we were surprised to see that very, very few fit her category:
Only five fit that description! And most were being offered at much higher prices.
If you were willing to branch out to the whole US, there were 14 available, but if you are located in the East and want to see what your buying before you buy the alpaca, then there's only the five.
Of course, the numbers available might have changed since I wrote this, but, the bottom line is that our Sabelle is in rare company.
And even rarer company when you consider her bloodlines.
First, let's look at her paternal side of the picture:
Sabelle's Dad is MA Raider (Dark Rose Grey, ARI# 835098). The MA stands for "Mariah Alpacas" whose founder, the late Earlah Swift, brought the first alpacas into Northern New England. Earlah was an early "pioneer" in the U.S. alpaca industry and was well respected for developing one of the premier alpaca herds in the country, creating a breeding program designed to produce structurally sound and correct animals with the highest quality fleece.
Raider's Dad (that is, our Sabelle's paternal grandfather) is the legendary 5Peruvian Silverado 9042 (Dark Silver Grey, ARI# 800670). Born in Peru, Silverado has an impressive record of award-winning colored offspring, as Raider does attest.
Raider's Mom is MA Shania (Medium Brown, ARI# 803350), another outstanding Mariah alpaca, whose parents were both dark-colored alpacas imported from Peru — her Dad (therefore our Sabelle's paternal great-grandfather was the famous PPPeruvian Inca 6025 (True Black, ARI# 139297) — the first true black Peruvian to be imported into this country, and who has many award winning offspring.
And that's just on Sabelle's Dad's side of the family!
Now for her Mom's side:
Sabelle's Mom is our ECF Ariel (Medium Fawn, ARI# 1254921), who couldn't be more perfect in our eyes. A perfect Mom, a perfect temperament, and, oh, what a beauty!
Ariel's Dad (therefore, Sabelle's maternal grandfather) is 6Peruvian Adriano of Ravenna, whose Mom was pregnant with him when she was imported from Peru. Adriano has produced a number of show winning offspring in just about every color.
Ariel's Mom — MA Rosetta — is the offspring of another legendary Peruvian herdsire — 4Peruvian Wira Cocha 6023 (Medium Brown, ARI# 166565) — who was one of only two males brought from the Quenamori region of Peru, and he is well known for stamping his offspring with dense, well-defined crimp fleece. He is the sire of many award winning offspring.
But what of Sabelle herself? Would you believe me if I told you that she's a gem? Probably not (because of course you'd expect me to say that when we're trying to sell her). But I'm not kidding — she's turning into a real looker.
First, the color of her fleece is gorgeous. And it's developing that sought-after bundling consistency. And it's dense and soft, with great crimp. (If all that sounds like every other fleece description you've heard, and you'd like to see Sabelle's fleece for yourself, email us your mailing address, and we'll send you a sample.)
Her conformation is straight and true. And her temperament couldn't be a better balance of spunk and gentleness. She's always curious and comes up to say Hi whenever we enter or pass by her pasture or stall.
We'd love to have you come visit us and meet Sabelle for yourself. We even have a guest cabin that you are welcome to stay in while you're here.
Sabelle is truly a special little girl. Considering her heritage and color, we believe that the $12,000 we are asking is a fair price. We hope we can find a special family for her to live with.
(If you are interested in Sabelle, please let us know, because we would like to talk to you about possible purchase incentives, such as a free breeding to a full Accoyo herdsire when Sabelle comes of age, and also website development and photography services, plus other possible inducements.)
